Sebastian Diego Wlasiuk-Martinez was born at
9:10 pm on Sunday May 29th.  Anna delivered him (after 4 1/2 hours) on a
birth stool in our bedroom.  Our midwife, Pam Kolanz, caught him.  He weighs
7lbs 5oz and is 20 inches long.  He is amazingly quiet, considering what a
handful Aleks was at birth, and perfectly healthy.

full birth story

Contractions started at about 4:30. I had 3 and called Jon back home from the library.

Then I called my mom and asked her when I should call her because

I had a few contractions that felt like the 'real thing' but no show or anything.

So she decided to come. Called the midwife. Jon called her back after

things progressed and she arrived at 6:30. Got rid of Aleks. Labored in the pool,

labored on the toilet, labored in the pool, labored on the toilet. Hated it.

Nice breaks between contractions though. Loads of pressure pretty much the entire time.

Moved to the bedroom and tried to lay down for about 2 seconds. Called for the

birth stool at 8:58. Water broke (read: exploded) at 9:05. Meconium in

fluid but not thick. Baby born at 9:10--one cord wrapped around neck. Midwife caught

due to intensity, Jon held flashlight and stood in birth fluid. Small perineal tear.

Refused stitches. It was a boy! Midwife (Pam) suctioned mouth/nose and baby breathed

immediately and looked about. Momma Cat arrived 3 minutes after delivery .

Baby cried very little...still little crying (fingers crossed). Slowly working on breast feeding.

Jon cooked for Anna and Pam (and himself) then picked up Aleks who said, upon

meeting the baby, "A baby. Look, a new baby." He still has no idea what he is in for.

Tomorrow morning should slowly change that. He has dark hair, unlike his brother. Hooray! Hooray!
